From Winter’s Food Diary


Family gathering in winters brings more excitement and pleasure. This excitement is incomplete without having winter season’s food. Soup, fried fish and gajar halwa are most favourite foods of winters.  Majority of people like to have coffee, tea and soup for the protection of cold. Soup is one of the special winter’s foods, liquid in form or it may be thick and creamy also. Soup can be prepared by different recipes. Chicken corn soup, Chinese soup, vegetable soup and egg soup are most favourite soups of people having in winters. Here are some special winter’s food recipes which can be easily made at home.

  1. Chicken Chowmein soup:


Boiled Chicken boneless:                         200 grams

Chicken stock (yakhni):                            4 cups

Spring onion (chopped):                           1 stalk

Carrot (chopped) :                                   ½ cup

Mushrooms (chopped):                            ½ cup

Bean sprouts (chopped):                          ½ cup

Noodles:                                                  100 grams

White vinegar:                                         1 tbsp

Black pepper:                                           ½  tbsp

Salt:                                                         1  tsp

Soya sauce:                                            2 tbsp


First boil noodles and sock it. Add chicken and vegetables in stock. Boil for 8-10 minutes then add noodle and all remaining ingredients in it. Boil for 2 more minutes. Delicious soup is ready. Pour into a bowl and garnish with green onion.

  1. Creamy Chicken Soup:


Boiled chicken pieces:              250 grams

Butter:                                    3 Tbsp

Plain flour:                               1 tbsp

Skimmed milk:                         1 liter

Salt:                                        ½ tbsp

Black pepper:                            1 tbsp

Soya sauce:                               1tbsp

Chili sauce:                                 1 tbsp

Garlic paste:                               ½ tbsp



First melt butter in a sauce pan over medium heat then add flour and stir well to form a thick paste. Slowly add milk and continue stirring. Add boiled chicken and remaining ingredients. Cook on low flame about 15 more minutes.  Pour in a bowl and enjoy.


Fish is a super food which is full of proteins. Eating fish twice a week makes man healthy by heart as well as boost his immune system and feed the brain. Fish contains omega-3 fatty acid which is unsaturated and reduce the strokes and heart diseases. Eating fish is very useful to make your skin and hair more beautiful.

Fish can be cook by different recipes like fry fish, baked fish, fish curry, fish burger and fish pakora also but most of the people like to eat spicy fried fish or Tawa fish.

Here are the two different recipes

  1. Tawa Fish



Fish                                       ½ kg

Ginger paste                          2 tbsp

Garlic paste                           2 tbsp

Carom seed (ajwain)             ¼ tsp

Lemon juice                           3 tbsp

Salt                                         ½ tbsp

Turmeric powder                    ¼ tbsp

Coriander powder                    1 tsp

Red chili powder                      1 tbsp

Gram flour                              2 tbsp

Cumin seeds                           1 tsp



First marinate the fish with salt and lemon juice for ten minutes then wash and dry well. Then again marinate with all the spice and coated with gram flour, keep in the refrigerator for 2 hours. Pour oil or ghee on tawa and fry marinated fish till it turns golden brown.  Take out in a dish and serve with chatni or raita.



  1. Steam fish with Tomato Salsa




Boneless fish:                        ½ kg

Onion                                    20 grams (cut into four pieces)

Curry leaves                           2 pcs

Olive oil                                 4 tbsp

Crushed garlic                        1 tbsp

Onion small pieces                  half cup

Tomato                                  250 grams

Thyme                                    2 pinch

Brown vinegar                        1 tbsp

Red chili powder                      1 tbsp

Salt                                          ½ tbsp

Lemon juice                             2 tbsp

Black pepper                            1 tbsp



Heat olive oil in a pan then add garlic, onion small pieces, tomato, vinegar, chili powder and salt, it become salsa. Apply black pepper and salt to the fish, put the onion pieces and curry leaves on the fish and wrapped it into foil sheet. Cook the fish in the steam for about 20 minutes, take out in the dish and pour tomato salsa on it.

Carrot’s delight, Halwa

 Carrot is a most beneficial and healthy vegetable. It is a good source of antioxidant agents. Vitamin A, C, K, B8 and pantothanic acid, folate, copper, iron are also found in carrot with rich quantity. Carrot is the only vegetable which can be taken in different ways, like carrot juice, carrot in salad, carrot achar, carrot dessert, carrot curry.

Winter’s season enjoyment is incomplete without carrot halwa . People prefer to serve carrot halwa as a dessert in most of the winter’s occasion.

Carrot                                                                   1 kg

Pure ghee                                                              half cup

Green cardamom powder                                       ¼ tbsp

Sugar                                                                     1 cup

Almond sliced, cashew nuts, pistachios                    ½ cup

Khoya                                                                     1 cup

Milk                                                                          ½ kg



Put the grated carrot in a pan and add milk, sugar and cardamom powder in it. Cook until milk becomes dry then add ghee and cook well. Take out in a dish and let it cool. Mix khoya and other ingredients in it.  Decorate with nuts and serve.
